Calor is a modern Spanish tapas fusion restaurant located in Carlton. The brief was to reactivate the unused South Lawn carpark located on the Melbourne University Campus. This synonymous structure has had many different uses since its construction such as being a film set and event space. Taking cues from its past, this restaurant space that occupies a small section of the site creates theatrical and dramatic moments. The raw existing concrete structure and its parabolic design form are left on show and are contrasted with the new timber and textiles. These materials soften and add a textural element to the space and design. The opaque panels and screens structure more intimate spaces that lie within the overall volume.
